Supporting Garment and Textile Enterprises through the Building Economic Resilience in Gaza Project
The Palestinian Federation of Garment and Textile Industries participated in the implementation of the “Building Economic Resilience in Gaza” project, funded by the European Union and implemented by Oxfam in partnership with MA’AN Development Center. The project aims to support enterprises with equipment and energy systems, particularly solar power solutions, to reduce production costs, strengthen operational capacity, and preserve employment opportunities.
The Federation led the outreach, nomination, and verification process for garment and textile enterprises. The process began with 33 enterprises, followed by verification with 30 enterprises, 25 field visits, and the assessment of 14 enterprises against standardized technical and operational criteria. This resulted in the selection of 10 eligible enterprises and four reserve enterprises.
The selected enterprises currently employ 200 workers, including 22 women, compared with 895 workers before the war. Their improvement plans indicate the potential to create up to 217 additional jobs, including 35 opportunities for women, once the required interventions are implemented.
